A glimpse of our Journey

Inspired by the ideas and activities of its illustrious spiritual mentor, Professor Rajendra Mishra, Rajendra Mishra School of Engineering Entrepreneurship was formed out of decades of activity and experience in promoting entrepreneurship in India. The Science and Technology Entrepreneurs’ Park (STEP), founded in 1986 with support from the Department of Science and Technology, echoed Prof. Mishra’s lifelong ideals of embracing the best engineering and management practises. Providing the enterprising students of IIT-KGP with a level playing ground, STEP can be seen as the first stride towards a school of engineering entrepreneurship at IIT-KGP.

By the new millennium, there was a worldwide explosion of entrepreneurial activities by organizations with primary focus on improving the health, education, and general well-being of individuals and communities. Most of this activity has been undertaken by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or non-profit organizations. The enterprises created by talented students are designed to address the needs of the common man, which they do so with high-end innovation learned during their 4 years of engineering at IIT.

It was therefore time for a distinct school dedicated to entrepreneurship. In a meeting held on 17th June 2010, the Board of Directors of IIT-KGP decided to set up the School and name it after Professor Mishra. Rajendra Mishra School of Engineering Entrepreneurship was born.

In the seven years of its existence RMSoEE has stimulated and encouraged innovation and enterprise through various initiatives. The Innovation Lab, RMSoEE’s most imaginative facility, was set up to encourage students to work on their projects which were inaugurated by the then minister-in-charge of micro and small scale enterprises. During this course students meet entrepreneurs who have succeeded in creating sustainable enterprises. Apart from this, research activities in various arenas like healthcare management, energy management and entrepreneurship are being carried out in the department. Currently the department is organizing a number of activities and mentorship programs with the E-Cell and the RMSoEE students.
