Research Scholars’ Day – Insight 2015

Rajendra Mishra School of Engineering Entrepreneurship, IIT Kharagpur has celebrated its 2nd Research Scholars’ Day “Insight 2015”, on March 25, 2015 at Maitrayee Auditorium, IIT Kharagpur. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Rear Admiral Dr. V. K. Singh (Retd.), Director, Healthcare Asia at Simpler Consulting and Adjunct Research Professor, Ivey School of Business University of Canada as Chief Guest and the function was presided by Prof. A.N. Samanta, Dean Post Graduate Studies & Research, IIT Kharagpur. It was an eventful day with thought-provoking speeches, presentations and discussions. The function started with the soothing invocation song and the Chief Guest officially inaugurated the Research Scholars’ Day by lightening the lamp. The Dean (PGS & R), Head, RMSoEE and Research Co-ordinator, RMSoEE assisted the chief guest in lightening the symbolic representation knowledge, the lamp.

 

The inauguration was followed by the inspiring address by Prof. Partha Pratim Das, Head, RMSoEE over the entrepreneurial challenges and opportunities for school followed by Dean (PGS & R) over research opportunities and recent policy decisions in favor of researchers at IIT Kharagpur. The inaugural ceremony concluded with release of souvenir “Insight 2015” followed by elevating speech by the chief guest. Dr. V. K. Singh. In his presentation, “Technopreneurship in Healthcare: Innovation, Research and Cost Optimization”, Dr. V K Singh emphasized on the importance of right mix of technology with management concepts in every enterprise, especially in healthcare in this high demanding time.

 

Subsequently the research scholars of the school had presented their research work in the form of oral and poster presentations. The entire research presentations were focused on Innovation and Entrepreneurship domain which included the entrepreneurial startups, energy management, recent healthcare challenges in India, environmental uncertainty of startup firms, rural innovation management, quality and operations management, compound semiconductor devices for power amplifier application, program comprehension and eye gaze tracker, and value networking in rural development. The researchers presented their probable research contributions and further research plan for their doctoral studies. There were a lot of discussions and inputs given by the faculties and guests during the oral as well as poster presentations. It was an opportunity for research scholars to learn from heterogeneous and knowledgeable people including professors, experts and experienced guests. The suggestions and discussions will surely help the researchers in shaping their work in days to come so that it can create value in the society.

 

Besides the research scholars of the school, the dual degree students also participated in the program. They were very motivated in learning the advantages of research work during their entrepreneurial work.

 

The icing on the cake was the debate on the topic “Entrepreneurship education is essential for the success of “Make in India””. There were 2 teams, one was in support to the topic and the other against the topic. The heterogeneous nature of the teams brought various ideas for and against the motion and the importance of entrepreneurial education in achieving the short term and long term goals of the country has been undoubtedly established. The debate was divided in 3 rounds as Free-Hit round, Cross-Over round and Open-Debate round. The participating teams comprises of a faculties and students while the event was judged by team of faculties, chief guest and a student.

 

After the debate session, Prof. P K Dan presented the challenges provides insight and opportunities in the upcoming lab facility at School. In his presentation, he focused on the upcoming trends and opportunities in the research domain of product analytics and manufacturing.

 

The quiz competition conducted in the afternoon session was well taken and it ignited the grey matter of the participants. The special interest shown by the faculties in solving the quiz was remarkable. The enthusiastic response from the research scholars made the quiz a fun game.

 

The one-day long celebrations were ended with a brief closing ceremony in which the winners of the quiz competition were awarded with a token of appreciation.
